Level 6 is the last level of the intermediate stage. It adds 1,800 words, bringing you to 5,400, along with 413 characters to recognise and 150 to write. If you took the old HSK 6, note that the new Level 6 is a different thing: under HSK 3.0 there are three more levels above it.
The new words lean towards written and formal Chinese: themes like rules and the law, government, history, news and media, and energy and the environment. There are also more set patterns such as 与其…不如 and 之所以…是因为. The vocabulary book has all 1,800 words in 180 themed units, each with its own example sentence.
Both Level 6 books are printable PDFs at the moment. There's no paperback yet.
Counts are from the HSK syllabus published by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation in November 2025 (in force from July 2026), which is what HSK 3.0 uses.
